I am a freelance financial journalist and author based in Hertfordshire specialising in saving money, greener living and investing. A former Financial Times Group financial journalist – I was deputy news editor of the Investors Chronicle Magazine and a reporter for Shares Magazine before going freelance in 2007 – I am also author of The Frugal Life: How to spend less and live more (Good Life Press, 2009) Bedroom DJ: A Beginner’s Guide (Omnibus Press, 2003) and Victim Support – my debut crime novel was published in paperback in November 2011. My latest project is a book on green tips and inspirational ideas for businesses which will be published by Gibson Square Books. I contribute to a range of outlets including Interactive Investor and Motley Fool. You can catch up on my latest adventures on my new blog, The Essex Life. I am also a member of the Climate Change Speakers Network and give talks to societies and schools on green issues.

From September 2007 until July 2011 I created and wrote the popular Frugal Life blog for about living on a smaller budget, undergoing moneysaving challenges and pursuing a greener lifestyle. The blog ran for four years and proved popular during the recession. You can read archived posts of my challenges, such as living on the equivalent of the state pension, the jobseeker’s allowance, incapacity benefit, eating wild food and living on WWII rations at  and more recent posts at MSN’s site.

In October 2009 I was crowned Green Voice of the UK by the Energy Saving Trust. In the voluntary role, I represent the man on the street’s views on green issues and contribute to the EST’s blog. I have acted as a guest speaker at Energy Saving Trust functions and conferences. Following the General Election, I addressed an audience of new MPs at Westminster which included the new Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker. I have also volunteered with the Billericay Greening Campaign.

I am available for speaking engagements in the London, Herts and Essex area as well as writing and blogging opportunities. In March 2011 I had the honour of speaking at the UK Aware Show at Olympia as part of a panel on ‘a beginner’s guide to green living’. I have also appeared numerous times on BBC Essex’s Dave Monk Show, on BBC Scotland’s MacAulay and Co show, BBC London, BBC Berkshire and featured on BBC Breakfast TV.
